About & FAQ

Who are you?

Hello and thanks for asking! My name is Jake Lloyd Bacon. I've been a photographer for 20 years.

I'm also an actor. So I know first hand how stressful, frustrating, and expensive getting headshots in this city can be. I’ve had budget headshots taken by semi-pros and have been disappointed in the quality of them. If a casting director/rep sees an unprofessional photo they’ll assume I’m an unprofessional actor and that’s unacceptable. Your photos represent not just your appearance and personality but your commitment to your job. Inversely I’ve payed nearly a thousand dollars a pop (?!) to some of LA’s “top photographers” and couldn’t believe how stingy and restrictive they were with their time or the amount of looks I was able to try. Between the ticking clock nature of the whole process and a certain level of pretentiousness, I was never able to relax which always hindered the few looks I was allotted.

So I've taken all of those experiences getting my own headshots done and with the knowledge of what it's like to be on that side of the camera I've sculpted what I believe is the easiest, most fun, most laid back, and by a long shot the most fairly priced headshot session in town for the last decade.

How do I get my images after a session?

Unlike other photogs who pick and choose which images you get, I send you home with every frame we’ve taken. You can either bring a thumbdrive/hardrive or laptop for me to directly transfer your photos to, or I’ll simply send you a Dropbox link to download your entire session by midnight, the day of your session.

How is it possible to not put a time limit on a session?

I would hope it goes without say that the no time limit rule has an unspoken within reason clause attached. BUT in the 10+ years I’ve been taking headshots/portraits not ONCE have I ever had to tell someone we’ve gone on too long. In my experience we all have a threshold and you’ll get sick of my strobes long before we ever get to a point where it’s unreasonable.

How do digital touchups/corrections work?

I offer 3 touchups/corrections included in every session. Additional touchups/corrections are just $15 each!

Do you offer hair/makeup?

While I can refer hair and makeup artists to you to use, HMU is not included in the price of the session.

Can my hair/makeup artist come to my session?

Absolutely! There’s plenty of room and coffee.

Where do you shoot?

I shoot in my home in the Beverly Hills area of Los Angeles, CA! Shooting in my home studio space allows me to keep my rates competitive and not pass overprized studio rental costs onto you, the client. There is plenty of space with a wardrobe rack, bathroom for changing/HMU touchup and more. It also allows for a more comfortable and casual space to work in which I truly believe lends to a more relaxed shoot, which makes for better photos.

**Allergy Warning** We do have a small dog who lives in the space. We work really hard to keep the space very clean and the air free from dander, but if you have allergies be advised.

What forms of payment do you accept?

You can bring cash or a check, or Venmo, Zelle, or Paypal me via feeless transfer (or with the cost of fees added to the payment) and I ask for payment prior to leaving the session.

What is your cancelation policy?

Since I don’t take any payments/retainers for sessions up front, I am reliant entirely on your kindness, professionalism, and respect for my time regarding cancellations. If you have to cancel or reschedule I ask you try to do it no less than 48 hours before your session so I can attempt to re-fill the day. Of course I know things come up and will always work with your schedule to the best of my abilities.

I heard you have an awesome “Bring-a-Friend” deal! Is that true?

It is! If you and a friend want to come at the same time and both get your headshots together, it’s just $680 flat rate for both. That’s a hundred bucks cheaper for each of you!

Do you have a referral program?

I do! If you refer a friend (and they of course come shoot with me) I’ll give you $50 off your next session. You can do this as many times as you’d like. Just be sure to tell your friend to tell me that you sent them!

Is there REALLY coffee?

I am an addict. There will always be a fresh pot. Usually from Peets but it varies. You don’t have to drink it if you don’t want to, won’t stop me either way.

The images on this site are all in studio, do you shoot outside with natural light?

We can absolutely do a session outside with natural light if you would like to! While I do prefer to work in studio to have more control over lighting, I have shot many a client outside. There is an additional charge for outdoor sessions, though so please reach out to discuss if that’s what you’re looking for!

Do you do more than just headshots/portraits?

I have experience shooting a wide variety of work including editorial and promo photos for musicians, comics, jugglers, dancers and more, pet photos, group photos for families, bands, sketch groups, stunt teams, cosplay, character work… the list goes on. In fact, here, click this link to a super secret extra gallery just ‘cause you asked ——-> Super Secret Extra Gallery.

What COVID-19 precautions are you taking?

I am fully vaccinated and require any clients who come into studio to provide proof of vaccination or negative test within the last 24 hours.

I have a question that’s not here!

Send me a message and I’ll get back to you asap!
